Have you had the experience of any live, in-person life coach programs yet? Trainings that you attend in person are a totally different experience from programs that happen over the phone or the internet. Much of my training was on the phone and internet. But each segment of my JTS Advisors Master Coach University training also included a bonus 3-day in-person program, and for me those were much more than the icing on the cake.
The Benefits Of In-Person Life Coach Programs
.
• The biggest benefit of in-person life coach programs is that when you make the effort to be there, you can be totally focused on what is being presented and on whatever the experience of that program is. No telephones, no email, no children. Whatever your usual distractions are, you don’t have them.
• When you sign up, and particularly when you pay for a program, you are much more likely to actually go to it. It’s not like a free teleseminar where the topic sounds interesting and useful, but you end up talking with your friend on the phone and really, who’s going to know if you show up or not? For a live program, you make a commitment and back it up with your wallet, and you know that it’s a priority to be there and pay attention.
• You have the opportunity to hear what other people are up to, and explore joint venture possibilities or other kinds of collaborations.
• You can meet people who become lifelong friends or business partners.
• Inspiration abounds at live life coach programs–it’s like a supercharged mastermind as you talk about what you do and hear what others are doing.
• It’s an opportunity to experience first-hand how other coaches and service providers talk about their businesses and themselves and how they respond to what you present and how you present yourself.
• You get to see how a live event works. What do you like? What don’t you like? Are live life coach programs something you might want to do? What would you do differently?
• If you are just starting out or are changing or modifying your niche, a live program is an opportunity to try your change on for size. How does it feel? Are you comfortable with what you are presenting in your networking?
What Are The Disadvantages?
.
To my mind, there are three main disadvantages to in-person life coach programs.
• Usually they cost money, although this isn’t always the case. Sometimes you might find a live program that’s free. Be sure to check carefully, though, if this is the case, because sometimes the free programs are more of a pitch fest for you to buy various training materials or packages than they are a real training. Another model is to charge you a registration fee which is returned to you when you show up at the training.
• In-person life coach programs may require the expense and inconvenience of traveling a long distance to get there and stay in a hotel.
• You have to rearrange your schedule to take the time off from your usual activities, whether those are coaching or some other job. If you can’t take the time off, you might be better served to do your life coach programs online or over the phone at your convenience.
As you can probably tell, I’m a believer in live, in-person programs. How about you?
