Opportunities for Coaching Without Training: Career Coach

.

There are those who think coaching without training is impossible, but there are some things you can do to start helping people even before you take your first coaches training.  For example, what a career coach does is help people with time management.  It’s of course not the only thing, because what a career coach does includes a whole array of coaching tools such as transformational tools, assessment tools, and strategy.  But since we’re talking about coaching without training, let’s stick to time management.

What a Career Coach Does for Time Management

.

If you are going to start coaching without training on time management, here’s a little training to get you started.  What a career coach does around time management is to affect behavior and focus.  Some people might say that we need to overcome challenges to grow.  But really we need to be in a place where nothing is messing with us.  What a career coach does is give people permission to focus on one task at a time to get things done.

Another time management skill you can use to start coaching without training is how to decrease friction.  What a career coach does to combat friction is to minimize interruptions.  Anything that is urgent can take our attention away from what we’re doing.  But who is to say that ‘urgent’ interruption is important.  One of the keys to effective time management is managing interruptions like the phone, colleagues wanting to chat, checking emails, and even some other important activities that are not urgent but simply distract us from doing what needs to get done.

What a Career Coach Does To Increase Productivity

.

A ‘coaching without training’ time management fact is that multi-tasking lowers your I.Q. more than smoking pot.  If you wouldn’t smoke pot when you’re trying to get something important done at work, then why would you multi-task?  Women and entrepreneurs are natural multi-taskers which is helpful at times, ineffective at others.  What a career coach does is to help their clients see the difference, and set up blocks of time where their clients have the ability to focus and get the important or more challenging tasks done efficiently.

What You Should Know about Coaching Without Training

.

Coaching without training is a little like going to a foreign country whose primary language is different from the one you speak.  You can get by, but your experience will be completely different.  If you’re serious about coaching, get some training.  There are some really great coaching training programs out there that won’t cost you a bundle so you don’t have to continue coaching without training.
