Before you can know whether or not you’ve achieved success, you have to have a clear picture of the end point you want. Helping your client get clarity on his goals is the first step in coaching for success. What will his life or his business look like? Get him to be as specific as possible and to have explicit measurable endpoints. Make sure both you and he know what he will need to have or to see so that he knows he has accomplished his goal. Once he is clear, you are clear, and he is clear that you are clear, you’ve set the success process in motion.
Get Your Client To Success With Strategy

Once you are both clear about his goals, coaching for success involves helping your client with strategy. Sometimes you provide actual information, but often your client knows what to do—you just need to help him figure out what he already knows. Strategy coaching is also about helping your client to understand what beliefs or expectations are getting in the way of his success and helping him to overcome those obstacles.
Coaching For Success Requires Accountability

Action is the other critical factor in coaching for success. You and your client may know what he needs to do to reach his goals, but if he’s like most people he will often procrastinate, forget or just resist doing what he needs to do. How do you help? Get your client to commit to you that he will take specific actions by specific deadlines and then hold him to those deadlines. This is key to coaching for success because telling you that he is going to complete an action is a much more powerful impetus than just knowing he needs to do it. When you hold your client accountable for taking the steps he needs to take, you are helping him to succeed in reaching his goals.
