According to John Maxwell, “The Impossible Question” is one of the most commonly asked questions by any motivational coach or speaker.  It is, “If the possibility of failure were erased, what would you attempt to achieve?”  It may seem to be a good question to ask in your life coaching business.  It may seem to empower them to look ahead to life’s possibilities.  However, it is really a bad question.

So why is it a bad question?  In life coaching and as a motivational coach, you must give your client the right mindset to be successful.  Again, John Maxwell believes “The Impossible Question” takes your client’s thinking down the wrong track.  I agree with him.  There is no success without failure.  To suggest to your life coaching clients that it’s possible, is the wrong impression.  Ask your motivational coach clients this question instead: “If your perception of, and response to failure were changed, what would you attempt to achieve?”  Your life coaching client can change their life, if you help them look at failure differently.

Master Motivational Coach Technique: How To Make Your Life Coaching Client Go After Their Goals

If you’re a motivational coach, how do you keep your life coaching client moving toward their goals? It’s an age-old problem. When your client gets off their call with you as their motivational coach they are so pumped up! Then a few hours or days pass, and they go back to what they have always been doing. Why don’t life coaching clients stay motivated and keep taking action toward their goals? Because they don’t have a compelling enough reason to achieve them. We will now consider two things you must do to keep your life coaching clients deeply motivated to accomplish their goals.

As A Motivational Coach You Must Connect Your Client To The “Hell” They Will Experience If They Don’t Accomplish Their Goal

After you have your life coaching client write their goal down, have them write a paragraph about it. The paragraph needs to start with a description of the “hell,” or consequences, they will experience if they don’t accomplish their goal. What will it cost them in life and in their life coaching? At the end of the paragraph, have them write down the “heaven” that will result if they do accomplish the goal. If your client’s reason for achieving the goal is greater than the obstacles they will face, then they will be much more likely to achieve the goal with you as their motivational coach. If not, you will have your work cut out for you.

Your Life Coaching Client is Motivated By Two Things: Gaining Pleasure And Avoiding Pain

Here is an example: Imagine you are one of your motivational coach clients. You have been smoking a pack of cigarettes every day for 20 years. You have had a goal to quit smoking for the last five years because you know smoking is bad for you. You’ve tried hypnosis, gum and quit smoking seminars, but nothing seems to work. You go to the doctor. The doctor confirms your worst fears. You have lung cancer. If you quit smoking now you will have 10 years to live. If you keep smoking you will die in one year. Would you be able to quit smoking? I think most people would, with or without a motivational coach. Even though for the last five years the goal was unsuccessfully met, you would instantly have a strong enough reason to accomplish the goal. In a way, you would become your own motivational coach.

By writing down their life coaching goals, and the “heaven” and “hell” associated with them, your clients are creating a tool that they can use whenever they need a dose of their motivational coach. Your life coaching clients can read the paragraph they wrote whenever they don’t feel like taking action to give them a surge of motivation right when they need it most.

Tomorrow I know you will do a better job.” You can also celebrate a win and hold them to a new standard by saying “Great job on that! Now the next level for you is this.” You need to be positive with your clients. Also expect more of them as they make progress. Being positive and encouraging will make them feel good about themselves. By taking these simple actions as their pseudo motivational coach, they will want to continue taking the right actions to keep feeling good and achieve success.

You can be successful as a motivational coach with some basic life coaching education.  The magic key to motivation is that everything human beings do is either to avoid PAIN or gain PLEASURE.  It’s your belief that some actions will produce pleasure and others will create pain.  Even if some things are painful in the short term, you may still associate longer term pleasure by taking action.   How can someone who wants to become a motivational coach put this life coaching education into action?

Step One: Determine Your Values. The first step in this life coaching education is to find out what you value most.  In order to motivate yourself and others, the key is to find out what drives you.  What do you value most in your life?  Is it comfort?  Love?  Family? How to Become a Motivational Coach: Master Coach Life Coach Tips to Help You Succeed

Become a Motivational Coach by Implementing These Life Coach Tips

 

These life coach tips are the fastest way to become a motivational coach, or any other type of coach for that matter.  These are the life coach tips that all master coaches use.  It does not matter where you are, if you want to become a motivational coach or a master motivational coach, you’ll need to:

1. Set a clear GOAL:  The first of these life coach tips is important because the more clear you are on the specifics of your goal and the reasons why you want to achieve this goal, the greater the motivation you’ll have achieve it.  Instead of making a goal to become a motivational coach, you’ll want to be more specific.  You might have the goal to become a motivational coach who powerfully impacts the lives of 30 clients per month.  Next, associate massive pleasure to achieving the goal and massive pain if you don’t.

2. Take MASSIVE action:  You may not know everything you need to do, but the key is to get started.  For example, to become a motivational coach you can start by setting free sessions, talking to other coaches, and coaching friends.  Don’t become a knowledgeable fool; take action.  Intellectual mastery without action is worthless, but massive action with even a little knowledge is priceless.

A Famous Example of These Life Coach Tips in Action

 

Colonel Harland Sanders used these ‘life coach tips’ and had great results.  In 1896 Sanders’ father died forcing his mother to enter the work-force.  At the young age of six Sanders was tasked with looking after his younger siblings and cooking many of the family’s meals.  In a years time he had mastered several dishes.  Over the next 30 years Sanders held many jobs but his passion for cooking remained.  In 1930, while working at a service station, Sanders began cooking for hungry travelers.  Word spread and visitors would come from near and far just for a taste of Sanders’ food.  As the popularity of his meals grew Sanders moved across the street in order to increase his capacity.  Over the next ten years he perfected his cooking technique and his secret blend of eleven spices.  In 1955, Sanders, confident in the quality of his recipe, devoted himself to franchising his business.  Less than ten years later he had over 600 restaurants in the US and Canada.  Even though Sanders dabbled in other professions he returned to his chicken recipe, knowing it was worth something.  He started out cooking from a service station, but revised his plans to accommodate more people.  He then took massive action to franchise his business.  Without a doubt, he was laughed at at first, but then he reviewed and revised his approach.  With tenacity and time he was able share his chicken with more people than he thought possible.  Sanders didn’t have the best plan, but the massive action he took made up for it.  The same will work for you in your quest to become a master motivational coach.

Become a Life Coach Without Waiting for National Coaching Certification

How to get clients fast, and create instant credibility

When people ask how to become a life coach before they get enough hours to apply for national coaching certification, they often really mean, “How do I get some clients that pay me so I have some credibility and can really tell people that I am a coach?” What they are also wondering is, “Who is going to pay me to be their coach?” and how they will step into the role where they have actually become a life coach?

“Who will believe me?”

Because until you become a life coach, or motivational coach, and actually have some cash-paying clients, you don’t even believe it yourself.

…and you can’t apply for national coaching certification from ICF until you have at least 250 hours of PAID coaching.

The way to step over this hurdle, is to provide massive value to your prospective client. BEFORE you try to sign them up. Even many salespeople make this mistake. They skip over building trust and report, and then they skip over identifying the needs of the customer.  Skip over these crucial steps, and people’s walls go up, and they will run.

How do you create massive value? You must become a life coach without the ”credibility” you would have with national coaching certification.  Schedule a complimentary session. This provides value for both you, and your prospective client. You find out if they are coachable, and they find out if you have become a life coach for real.

The first steps to doing this are:

  1. Create some initial rapport.

  2. Find out what’s really important to them. Specifically, ask them, “What are 3 things that are absolutely crucial for you to achieve or at least be well on their way to achieving in the next 90 days?” Make sure you confirm that you are clear on each goal (and they understand their goals as well). There is power in this. Their goals now exist outside their head and they can start to own them. You have begun to add value just by doing this. Few people have ever had someone completely focused on them, allowing them to create space to dream.

  3. Find what’s missing for them to be able to achieve their goals. Look into the PAST, PRESENT, and FUTURE to really create understanding of how things will look if they don’t change their limiting patterns or beliefs. Get them to FEEL the emotions they would feel if they DON’T achieve what they want.  use coaching skills like the ‘JOLT Technique‘.

  4. Give them your BEST answer to help them move forward. WAIT, Did I really say “best”? Of course! Are you a motivational coach that is living in fear of scarcity? How can you expect people to show up and do their best if you are not giving your best EACH and EVERY session? Hold NOTHING back.

If you are able to give massive value, things will happen.

Your prospect may become your client.

Now you can start owning that you have become a life coach.
