Life Coach Books You’ll Love, And a Secret Just For You

Life Coach books are a great resource for expanding your knowledge and creating a vast variety of tools to share with your clients. They don’t mention everything about the life of a coach in these nifty books. I’m here to spill the beans about what you won’t find and share some of my favorites I think you’ll find useful.

Life Coach Books I Keep in Arms Reach

I have my little desk set up with my computer, cell phone, white board, file on each client, plug in head phones and a select few life coach books.

Are you dying to know what they are?

These are the books I often quote and pull commitments from for my clients to work on in between our coaching calls.

  1. NLP For Dummies- This is one of the life coach books that offers a simple, quick comprehensive resource for easy to use NLP (Neuro Linguistics Programming) techniques. I pull this book out when I’m looking for a new way of approaching a limiting belief, addiction or pattern. It is great bible for different ways of using hypnosis and meditation, when goal setting and accountability is just not cutting it. It’s also a great reminder to take you back to the simple basic goodies you started out with.
  2. Becoming a Professional Life Coach: Lessons from the Institute of Life Coach Training- This book presents the essential elements of life coach training in a full and deep content form. It’s very “smarty tarty”. It is written for those of you who like to feel like a professor is leading you through class. If that resonates with you this is one of the life coach books you’ll keep close at hand.
  3. Anatomy of the Human Spirit- I reference this book with clients who’s stress has begun to manifest as illness in their body. I believe that your negative, trapped energy can destroy your organs and this is a perfect life coach book to help your clients measure the importance of releasing negative emotion, fear and stress.

Above The Rest, Top Notch, Must Have, Resources

Well, in my opinion of course.

A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose- This is not one of your traditional life coach books. I quote it often and suggest my clients read it for themselves. I use A New Earth and The Power of Now, both by Echart Tolle, when I feel that our coaching has become wrapped up in planning for the future. I notice my clients constantly seeChartore. I feel it is important to help my clients find peace, joy and abundance in the present moment. This book provides deep, insightful, perspective on the ego and consciousness. If I could only pick one book, of ALL the life coach books to recommend, this would be my choice.

If you are ever at a loss for how to help a client, this book is a great resource for the core issues your clients will need to master. I also have this book in audio and play it every once in a while around my house, just to pump me up before a session.

A Secret Just For You

No matter what these life coach books say you must, must, must….

Trust your instincts!

Bring YOUR energy, intuition and zest for helping people live their best life, to EVERY session. No book can ignite that fire for you. It’s yours to burn. So heat it up. Share and Shine!

Life Coach Books (part 2): Get Your Business Coaching Training From the Masters

Some of the best life coach books won’t be found in the life coach books section of the library. But there are a lot of books that we can borrow from other fields that would be great for business coaching training. If you want to turn reading into business coaching training, make sure you put what you read into action as soon as possible. Some great “life coach books that you can use to get some business coaching training are:

The E-Myth by Michael E. Gerber

This “E” stands for Entrepreneurial. Gerber points out that most small businesses fail because the owners are working in their business as technicians, rather than on working on business development and growth. While it doesn’t really fit securely inside the life coach books category, it is a classic that provides some great business coaching training tips.

Selling the Invisible: A Field Guide to Modern Marketing by Harry Beckwith

This could just as easily be called a life coach book for marketing. The strategies are written specifically for people in the service industry.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach their Children that the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! by Robert Kiyosaki

Kiyosaki believes that our educational system prepares the children in our society to become good employees who get locked into the “rat-race”. He suggests that we learn accounting and investing skills, so we can have financial freedom.

The 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss

This one is true to life as life coach books go.  It explains modern business strategies that would be especially valuable to share with clients who are having difficulty balancing work and leisure.

Eat That Frog! 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time by Brian Tracy

Most people struggle with not having enough time in their day. Brian Tracy uses a clever metaphor to describe how to stop procrastinating, and get the most important tasks done first. This is great business coaching training material that can be put into action right away.

I’m sure there are a lot of other great references that apply to business coaching training that I haven’t mentioned. If you want to share your favorite life coach books, feel free to add them to the list in the comments section.

Life Coach Books: Get your Coaching Training from the Masters

There are so many great books out there that should be added to the life coach books section of the library.  But if you are looking to go beyond a good read, and really get some coaching training, you need to put the information into action.  The most efficient way to do this is to read about whatever you are struggling with at the moment, and start implementing ideas as soon as possible.  Some great life coach books to get you started are: The Portable Coach: 28 Sure Fire Strategies for Business and Personal Success by Thomas J. Leonard and Byron Larson Leonard started Coach U in 1992 and the CoachVille School of Coaching.  This is one of the original life coach books, as it was originally designed as a part of the coaching training at Coach U, and is a guide for personal and professional growth.  Some of the topics include “Adding Value for the Joy of It” and “Endorsing Your Worst Weaknesses”. Rules for Revolutionaries by Guy Kawasaki This book explains how to create revolutionary products and services, as well as strategies to take them to market. This is a great book for anyone who is looking for coaching training on creative development. The Structure of Magic, by Richard Bandler and John Grinder This book is written for psychologists, but is a must read if you are looking for some great coaching training.  Bandler and Grinder analyze how master clinicians are able to intimately connect with people in order to transform lives, and in a way that seems magical.  This is one of the best life coach books for learning the communication skills needed to become a master. Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill Written in 1937 and still being published, read, and quoted.  A must read for anyone interested in helping people transform their lives. Getting to Yes by Roger Fisher This book is based on “win-win” negotiation.  My husband read it, and so I had to read it to make sure he wasn’t getting an unfair advantage.  But it really isn’t about bargaining in the traditional sense.  It explains how to negotiate so neither side has to loose their integrity by abandoning their beliefs. This list is by no means complete.  There are many more books out there that provide coaches training.  So if I haven’t mentioned any of your favorite life coach books, add them to the list by sharing a comment below.
