Life Coaching Business Essentials: How to Get Coaching Clients and Where to Find Them

February 24th, 2010

If you’re like most coaches, you’re probably wondering how to get coaching clients.  It’s the life coaching business dilemma.  You want to make a difference, but you just haven’t found enough clients yet.  How do you start your life coaching business and get those first few clients?  Here is one simple method how to get coaching clients without fancy technology or expensive marketing.

Develop a List of People You Know and Start With Those You Know Best as You Are Thinking About How to Get Coaching Clients

.

The best way to approach your life coaching business is to take inventory of all the people you know.  Include family, friends, people who are so close to you that they would never pay you to coach them.  This is the first group.  I’m not suggesting that how to get coaching clients is to get these people to enroll, but they are a great place to start.  Start by offering free sessions for them and make a difference in their lives.  You aren’t like to get new life coaching business, but if you do a good job you are highly likely to referrals for more free sessions.  By the second or third generation, these people are removed from you enough that you may actually get paying clients.

Increase Your Life Coaching Business by Looking at Those You Don’t Know as Well

.

Another way how to get coaching clients is to look at all the people who you don’t know very well.  You’re more likely to have some ‘magic’ with them, since they don’t know too much about you.  Again, offer them a free session.  For every session, expect at least two referrals if you’ve done a great job.  Not everyone will enroll, but you will start seeing some life coaching business as your skills improve.

Lastly, When Considering How to Get Coaching Clients Look for People on Your List Who Know Others That Would Benefit From Your Coaching

.

The third way how to get coaching clients is to look at those on your list who may not need your coaching services, but will know your ideal client.  Just like the principal of an elementary school doesn’t teach, but knows a lot of teachers and is an authority in their eyes.  Who do you know who could bring you life coaching business?

They key with this life coaching business tool, as with all the others, is to lead with the giving hand.  You want to offer these people something that is so valuable to them that you almost hesitate giving it away for free.  I’m not saying that how to get coaching clients is to coach them for free forever, but when you meet with them show up in the best possible way you can.  Did Cinderella go to the ball wearing rags?  Of course not!  Arrive at your full potential.  Give to the best of your ability.  And if you’re still not getting results, get some new tools so you can give away even better results.

How To Get Coaching Clients: Use The Law Of Averages In Your Life Coaching Business

February 9th, 2010

One way to learn how to get coaching clients for your life coaching business is to use the law of averages. It is the most predictable and dependable way to learn how to get coaching clients. Your life coaching business, or any business for that matter, is a numbers driven field. That means you have to do a certain amount of free coaching sessions to get a paid coaching client. People will try to tell you to do it a different way, but the bottom line is the majority of life coaching business will come from doing free sessions.

How To Get Coaching Clients In Your Life Coaching Business: Know The Ratios

.

The first step to learning how to get coaching clients in your life coaching business is to know the ratios. What does that mean? It means your enrollment results can be broken down into ratios of results. If you get one coaching client for every 10 free coaching sessions you do, your close ratio is 10% of the free sessions you do. You should also figure out that a certain amount of free sessions you schedule will not happen. That is your reschedule and/or cancellation percentage. Usually, in my experience, it is around 30%. This means if you schedule 13-15 free coaching sessions, about 10 of them will actually happen. If you don’t know your averages for how to get coaching clients, give it your best guess, start tracking your results and adjust over time.

How To Get Coaching Clients For Your Life Coaching Business; If You Don’t Know The Ratios Then Find Someone Who Does

.

The second step to learning how to get coaching clients in your life coaching business is to run the ratios. Here is an example of what I mean: Let’s say your goal is to get one new client in your life coaching business each week. You get one client for every 10 free sessions you do. Your cancellation/reschedule percentage is 30%. That means you need to schedule 15 free coaching sessions a week. Before that, let’s say it takes offering a free coaching session to five people for one person to schedule a free session with you. That means your job is to offer a free session to 75 people per week in order to get one new client per week.

If you don’t know what the ratios are in your life coaching business, you’re missing a big piece to learning how to get coaching clients. If you don’t know where to start to get the ratios, ask someone who does or measure them over time. If you run the ratios you will have a better chance at having a successful life coaching business while everyone else is making excuses as to why they don’t.

How To Get Coaching Clients For Your Life Coaching Business By Using Your Network

January 22nd, 2010

You want to start a life coaching business? The first way I know how to get coaching clients for your life coaching business is by using your network. Until you learn how to get coaching clients, you’re not really a professional coach. If you’re coaching people for money and you’re making a profit, then you have a life coaching business. If you don’t have any paying clients, you have a hobby. If you want a business rather than a hobby, you have to figure out how to get coaching clients. You usually start getting client leads from your network first before you get leads anywhere else.

How to Get Coaching Clients: Use a Database to Market Your Life Coaching Business to Your Network

.

Here’s how to get coaching clients using your network.

First, you must get a database. Your database is where you put the contact information for everyone you know (your network). Your database is, and always will be, the backbone of your life coaching business. You want a database you can use on your computer through a database management program like ACT or Goldmine, etc. This allows you to keep the contact information for your entire network in one place so that it’s easy to search and maintain. I do not endorse any particular database, so do your research and pick the one that’s best for you. This will allow you to keep in touch with your network over email, phone calls, newsletters, etc. This type of activity is called “sequential marketing.” It’s an effective way to build relationships and one way how to get coaching clients.

How To Get Coaching Clients: Do NOT Wait Until Your Life Coaching Business Has Paying Clients To Get A Database

.

A common mistake you can make in learning how to get coaching clients, is to wait to get a database. The longer you wait, the less likely you will get one. If you wait because, “it’s too expensive,” or, “I need someone to show me how to use it,” you will lose money. Why? If you stay in touch with your database, you should get 10-20% of your network to do business with you each year.

Having a database is not negotiable if you want to have a professional life coaching business. If you wait to get a database, what are you communicating to yourself and others? In my opinion, you’re communicating that you only have a life coaching business to make a quick buck. Take action right now and go get a database!

When Your Client Abandons Your Life Coaching Business: How to Get Coaching Clients who are M.I.A. to Call You Back

December 9th, 2009

Inevitably, in your life coaching business someone will fall out of communication.  These are the clients who won’t return emails, calls, etc.  To avoid this pitfall you much know how to get coaching clients to call you back, before they fall off the face of the planet for good.  Instead of focusing on what your life coaching business has to offer, it’s important to realize to keep clients from going M.I.A you must take the path that is neither easy nor natural.  When thinking about how to get coaching clients, the key is to find clients that will pursue you, but how do you do that?

How to Get Coaching Clients: Are You Afraid to Use the Most Effective Tool in Your Arsenal?

.

The most effective tool is one most coaches are afraid to use.  Coaches see it as how to get coaching clients annoyed with them.  No one wants to be annoying or have a life coaching business that is thought of as annoying, but if you read on you’ll realized how effective it can be to be annoying.

Be Annoying Watch Your Life Coaching Business Grow

.

They key to how to get coaching clients to call you back is to call them until they call you back.  This doesn’t mean once a month, or once a week.  If your client is not calling you back, then the honeymoon phase has ended.  When you enroll a client they think the coaching will take over and they won’t have to lift a finger to see progress.  Then they realize they must take action to complement your coaching, and to, ultimately achieve their goals.  They begin to freak out and start thinking, “I’m going to have to WORK.”  All the things they need to do are suddenly painstaking, where they were initially exciting.  Which is why they start avoiding you and all that life coaching business stuff.

Still, it’s Important to be Professional as You Focus on How to Get Coaching Clients

.

Now, I’m not saying that how to get coaching clients to call you back is to stalk them.  Be professional, but use whatever way you have to communicate with them.  The message your client will get is that, “I’m going to be more annoyed if I don’t get back in touch.”  They still may be disenchanted with the life coaching business, but the very emotion that was getting them to avoid you will get them to chase you down, even if it’s to tell you to stop bugging them.

The great thing about your life coaching business is that it will reveal which conditions in your life need to change.  Do you need more skills?  What is your own commitment to coaching?  This issue about how to get coaching clients to stay engaged in coaching won’t turn around in a month.  Look the source and take the opportunities to transform your own life.  It’s not always as easy as it sounds, because hindsight is 20/20.  Explore it with your coach and your mastermind groups.  The road needs to be traveled, and it isn’t necessarily easy.  So travel down as fast as possible.

How to Get Coaching Clients: Three Ways to Promote Your Life Coaching Business and Get Clients to Pursue You

November 4th, 2009

Have You Ever Wondered How to Get Coaching Clients?  After Reading This Article Clients Will be Coming to You

e

How do you get more life coaching business?  It would be great to know how to get coaching clients to call you, and maybe even pursue you in earnest to obtain your product or service.  It sounds like a dream, because most potential customers come with their arms crossed, as if to say, “I’m just looking and I don’t want to buy anything.”  Then we set out on hot pursuit by phoning them right back, or emailing them within ten minutes, trying to entice prospects to buy.  We end up seeming too eager or desperate.  But what if there was a way to play ‘hard to get’ with our life coaching business.  Clients might let their guard down, changing the whole dynamic.  Here are three ways that demonstrate how to get coaching clients, without chasing them:

Watch Your Life Coaching Business Grow By Playing Hard to Get With Prospective Clients

e

Tip #1:  How to Get Coaching Clients to Contact You Before It’s Too Late

Creating time limits on offers help people take action.  Even when your life coaching business is slower than you would like, you create urgency in your scripting.  For example you might say, “I’ve only got a few open slots this month, if you want to take advantage of this offer make sure you contact me by the 15th.”  There is nothing more valuable than a commodity that’s about to expire.

Tip #2:  How to Get Coaching Clients to Contact You Before There Isn’t Any Left

Similar to the first tip, another way to promote your life coaching business without chasing your clients is to offer a limited supply.  “I have 5 free session slots available, and they will be scheduled on a first come basis” or “I only coaching 20 people per month, and I have 3 openings left.  Do you want to be one of the 3?”

Tip #3:  How to Get Coaching Clients to Contact You So They Have a Chance at Prize

Another way to increase “buzz” around your life coaching business is to create a competition, jackpot or drawing.  Some people are more excited about the prospect of winning than they are about the actual prize.

Use the Tips Above and Stop Wondering How to Get Coaching Clients, Instead Have Them Knocking at Your Door

e

They key to successfully increasing traffic for your life coaching business using these tips on how to get coaching clients to contact you, is to make sure prospective clients see the warnings.  Most people won’t read your entire message or hear every word you say, so it’s essential to repeat the offer several times so people don’t end up feeling jilted.  But when you don’t come across as desperate and prospects wonder whether they will be able to take advantage of your offer, it helps them think of your product as more valuable.  And in doing this, you will be in a better position to offer your client the services they need.

What You Need to Have a Successful Life Coaching Business: How to Get Coaching Clients in 3 Easy Steps

September 25th, 2009

How to Get Coaching Clients for Your Life Coaching Business

.
When coaches are looking into growing their life coaching business, they often get so burdened with the process of marketing that they forget why they are actually doing all the work.  What’s the end game?  How to get coaching clients, of course.  But while every coach dreams of having a prosperous life coaching business; the greatest challenge is how to get coaching clients.

How to Get Coaching Clients:  Step 1
The first step is to find out what your ideal client’s greatest fears, frustrations and desires are.  To do this, you need to decide who your life coaching business is going to impact.  If you’re not sure what their greatest fears, frustrations and desires are, just ask.  You can do this in a 10 minute one-on-one call, group call, on-line survey or even from a front of the room speaking engagement.

How to Get Coaching Clients:  Step 2
Connect the dots between what your ideal client wants or doesn’t want, and the benefits of what your life coaching business can provide.  Make these benefits specific, measurable, external and emotional.  This means an outcome that they can see and feel.  For example, consider information on, “How to Get 5 New Cash Paying Clients This Month Without Making Cold Calls.”  Make a list of the beneficial properties of this information, and rank each benefit on a scale of 0 to 10 as to how valuable it would be for your customer.

How to Get Coaching Clients:  Step 3
For each benefit that ranks 5 or higher, create your “Magic Bullets.”  This is your best kept secrets, your most valuable information.  Format this information in a quick and easy way your potential clients can consume it.  You can put it in the form of an article, a video, or presentation.  They key is to get this information into the hands of as many people as possible.  Just by doing this, you will find people who will ask you for more.  That’s how you’ll know you were successful in reaching them.  If not, try again.  This is a powerful way of attracting clients into your life coaching business.

A Life Coaching Business Requires a Strategy for How to Get Coaching Clients

.
What’s the key to how to get coaching clients?  Figure out what they want, put it into a form you can give out to the masses, and get it into their hands.  By following these steps you will find people who are interested in what your life coaching business has to offer.  These steps will help you develop a plan to impress the people who you want to coach.  When you can provide that type of value for people, it’s priceless.  Even if you just outline their greatest fears, frustrations, and aspirations more eloquently than they can; they will assume you have the answer to their problems.  They will chase you down and you won’t have to worry about trying to find new clients.

The Formula For a Successful Life Coaching Business: How to Get Coaching Clients To Rain From the Sky

August 24th, 2009

Are you running your life coaching business, or is it running you? Do you really know how to get coaching clients, or are you just hoping they will find you? There really is no secret to success in building a life coaching business. It’s just that most coaches won’t do what they need to do, because it looks like a lot of work. But if you’re willing to do what most won’t , you can live the life of your dreams. Here is the formula for how to get coaching clients:

The First Key to Your Life Coaching Business: Lead Generation

e

There are three keys to how to get coaching clients. The first is lead generation. In order to have a successful life coaching business, you’ll need to spend 2 hours a day generating leads. The best way to get leads is to offer people valuable information or cool stuff in exchange for their contact information. The layout of your page won’t get them to give you their info; it’s your copy and message that will get them to stay. This includes flyers, Facebook events, or squeeze pages for an event or product. This might take you 10 hours a week to achieve and the content has to be your very best stuff.

The Next Key to Your Life Coaching Business: Tell People About Your Offer

e

The next step in how to get coaching clients is to spend one hour a day telling people about your offer. This includes running free sessions with the intent to enroll clients or a group call with a call to action that will create sales for your life coaching business. You’ll probably spend 5 hours a week in this area.

The Last Key to Your Life Coaching Business: Add Content to Your Products or Services

e

The final step in how to get coaching clients is to spend about ½ hour a day adding content to your products or services. Practicing coaching, taking classes or seminars, and talking to your mentor do not count as time spent in growing your life coaching business. These are extracurricular activities; like a class picnic or field trip. They are fun, but you will not get paid for time spent in these areas. It’s unfortunate, because this is where we all want to hang out and play the game of being a coach.

The formula for how to get coaching clients is a ratio of 8:4:2. You will spend the bulk of your time generating leads, half that time marketing to those leads, and the smallest portion of your time creating products. Unfortunately it’s the opposite of what most coaches do, and the reason that so few coaches ever end up having a successful life coaching business. So, when are you going to get started?

How to Get Coaching Clients: Without Feeling Like You are Standing by The Side of The Road With a Sign That Says, “Life Coach for Hire”

May 23rd, 2009

Is there a trick to finding out how to get coaching clients, without feeling like you are desperately holding up a sign that says, “Life Coach for Hire”? What type of marketing is most effective? How do you get word out that you are a life coach for hire, but in a confident and eloquent manner? What’s the easiest way to learn how to get coaching clients?

How to Get Coaching Clients: Going From “Life Coach for Hire” to “Life Coach Business”

The most effective way to convey the value of coaching to someone who doesn’t know what coaching is really about is to give them a free coaching session. You might wonder how to get coaching clients from a free session, if they aren’t willing to pay for a session in the first place. Will they feel that it’s valuable if you have to give it away? Are people going to feel like they are doing you a favor because they felt sorry for you standing out in the rainy economy with a little sign that said, “Life Coach for Hire?”

This is The 3 Step “Life Coach for Hire” Process on How to Get Coaching Clients From a Free Session:

  1. Establish rapport. This is the foundation for how to get coaching clients. You’ve somehow got their attention, and let them know that you are a life coach for hire. But before you can make a difference for them, they have to trust you. People don’t usually want to hear anything negative about themselves. Unless you have established an environment of mutual respect, if you say something they don’t want to hear they’ll either get mad at you or just not listen.

  2. Cut through the baloney. How to get coaching clients is not to be like everyone else who wants something from them. You need to take a stand for being honest and direct. Be the one person in their life who cares enough about them to help them see what’s stopping them from living the life they want.

  3. Give them results. Once you’re found the problem, use any of the coaching techniques you’re learned and make an impact. Don’t hold anything back. Act as if this is the only time you will ever get to coach this person. Because unless you are able to provide a result so intense they can’t imagine how they will ever live their life without you, they won’t sign up for coaching. If you give your best, even if they don’t sign up for coaching you have make a positive impact on the world and shown them that you are not the average life coach for hire. And if you don’t, you’ve just wasted valuable time. This is how to get coaching clients in a powerful way.

Your Intent and Your State of Mind: Your Ultimate Tools as a Life Coach for Hire to Help You Learn How to Get Coaching Clients

It’s all in your state of mind. How to get coaching clients is to show up for your free coaching sessions with the intent to use everything in your power to change their lives. Then no matter what the outcome is, you can feel good about yourself as a coach and you will not be some average person with a life coach for hire sign.
