What You Should Know About an Effective Leadership Coaching Program

Investing in a high quality leadership coaching program is therefore necessary for anyone who is keen on success because quality leadership is critical in all aspects of personal and professional life. In order for you to realize the full benefits of a leadership program, you must identify the best leadership coach or trainer. This requires research and consultation with professionals in leadership training as well as those who are going through the program. Your personal preparation is another important aspect that significantly influences the level of success you achieve from the program. Identifying a top leadership trainer and adequately preparing for the program are therefore the two most important factors you need to focus on.

Identifying a Top Leadership Coaching Program

When evaluating a leadership coaching program, look at their approach to training and the structure of their program. Look for those who are offering flexible, balanced and situation specific programs as opposed to packaged solutions that are meant to fit everyone without considering their leadership experience, level or background. A leadership coaching program should be customized to the circumstances and environment of the individual. It is the most effective option and you need to find a coach or trainer who can apply this approach.

Is the program accepted by associations and other institutions? Although this is a basic requirement when looking for a provider to deliver leadership training, it’s often overlooked. This indicates that the individual or organization is legally in the coaching business and has managed to meet some basic requirements expected by other entities.

Personal Preparation

Before going into a leadership program there is a certain amount of personal preparation required of the individual. You must begin by assessing your strengths and weaknesses in regards to leadership. You will also need to set out your expectations and goals of going into the program. These goals and expectations must be realistic as well as quantifiable and need to be shared with your coach or trainer.

You must also be willing to learn and implement the lessons of the program. This will require a lot of adjustment which in some cases may cause discomfort especially when working to adjust habits that reduce your effectiveness in leadership.

Having identified a top leadership coaching program and after adequately preparing yourself for it, you can expect to learn and gain experiences that will make you a more effective leader in and outside the workplace. Effective leadership results in a number of benefits for both the individual as well as those around them. It brings about greater productivity along with improved relationships which are critical for the success of business, social and personal projects.

Considering the benefits gained through leadership coaching programs, there has been great demand for providers, coaches and trainers. Those who are qualified and experienced enough to deliver quality coaching should do so. Not only will they make a decent living, but more importantly they will be helping improve leadership standards that have been shown to be a most crucial factor in personal and economic development.

4 Reasons the Republican Candidates Need Leadership Coaching Services

Now that the Republican debates are in full swing and the candidates are making appearances all across the country, it is becoming obvious that the candidates could use some leadership coaching services. If they had a good leadership coach, they would know when to keep their mouths closed!

Most candidates for political office are big thinkers, even if they don’t always seem like it on television. Rick Perry may not seem like an astute thinker, but it is doubtful he would have reached the governor’s mansion in one of the largest states in the nation without presenting some big ideas. The ideas may not all be wonderful, and they may not be helpful to a nation mired in a depression, but they are most likely big!

Though big thinkers believe all their ideas are the next great leap forward, it is true that many of them are merely ego driven and should never reach the public forum. Big thinkers need someone who can offer an objection opinion and new perspectives on that big idea. This is where professional leadership coaching services come in. Cast in the light of a coach’s perspective, some of their ideas may not appear as dazzling as the candidates originally thought.

The personal lives of all candidates are dissected and debated. Would JFK have ascended to the presidency if his personal life were public fodder for Fox News or CNN? Would Franklin Roosevelt have been elected to four terms if his affair had been made public? It is highly doubtful. In this media-crazed world, those candidates would have needed to use a good leadership coaching service!

But, back to the Republican candidates and their need for leadership coaching services. Though Obama’s approval rating is below 50%, it doesn’t appear that any of the Republican candidates have a chance to unseat the incumbent. They could and should be doing a better job!

Top 4 Reasons the Republican Candidates Need Leadership Coaching Services

  • A good leadership coach could give them a few lessons on honesty and owning up to their past. Americans seem to be a very forgiving people and are often willing to forgive a few transgressions. Own up to your sins, ask forgiveness and then tell us how you can help the nation climb out of this recession.
  • Be in touch with the electorate. Did multi-millionaire Mitt Romney really make a $10,000 bet with another candidate on national television while millions of Americans are losing their homes, jobs, and retirement accounts? Good coaching would instill better leadership qualities in the candidates before they go on TV and make asses of themselves.
  • Memo to the candidates – you are not always right. Good leadership coaching services can teach you that arrogance remain private and is not for public consumption.
  • A good coach would counter the gaggle of yes men and women who surround most candidates. A good coach would serve as the “no” man or woman to balance things out.

The services of a good coach are a valuable commodity for leaders in both the private and public sectors. All our candidates for political office could use a healthy dose of leadership coaching. Handlers, PR personnel, and advisors just don’t seem to be doing much good. Mitt, Michelle, Newt, and the rest of the gang – you should all hire professional leadership coaching services, take a few weeks break to work with your coaches, and then get back out on the campaign trail. You’ll be better candidates because of it and, we the people, will be much happier!

The Diary of a Wimpy Leadership Coach

The book, and the movie, The Diary of a Wimpy Kid, was about a sixth-grade kid navigating the choppy waters of middle school, not about a leadership coach. But, I borrowed the title to tell you what you should never be as a coach – a wimp!

While the wimpy kid had to face all sorts of cafeteria bullies and hallway Neanderthals, coaches have to face businesspeople, managers, CEOs; and professionals who can sometimes act like bullies.

Why would someone hire a professional and then not listen to their advice? Why would a client bully a coach? Yours is not to ask why, yours is to coach that bully; by using the 3 Cs of coaching, you will never be thought of as a wimpy coach.

The 3 Cs that Will Make You a Great Leadership Coach

Here they are; the keys that a wimpy kid and a wimpy coach need – the three Cs of coaching. The three Cs of coaching can turn a wimpy coach into the stud of the coaching profession!

Confidence

You are the coaching professional and you have the power to change lives. Confidence is noticeable and contagious. The only way to instill confidence in your clients, and confidence is one of the most important traits needed to be a leader, is to exude confidence. Confidence is a necessary trait for a good leadership coach. Leadership begins with confidence. If you lack confidence, you are a wimpy coach!

Capability

When coaching people, you don’t need super powers, but you must be capable. Being capable is comprised of intuition, training, continuing education, and experience. All good coaches have some level of intuition; an ability to understand the client’s needs and desires, the capability to suggest correct choices for your client, and a sixth sense to feel the resistance and hesitation a client may have. Coaches must also receive the proper training and then continue to educate themselves on new coaching theories and techniques.

The last component of a capable leadership coach is experience. This can include your experience in both the business world and the coaching profession. Experience takes time to collect, so new coaches may have to rely on their intuition, training, and continuing education to prevent them from becoming wimps. If you lack the capability, you will come across as a wimpy coach! No one is going to take advice from a wimp!

Chutzopah

Don’t read this the wrong way – this isn’t quite arrogance. Yes, it can sometimes be misread as arrogance, but it is closer to fearlessness. A coach who dares to tread where no one else has gone, will be a coach that gets results (and more clients than he or she can handle!). Chutzpah is one part conceit, one part arrogance, one part confidence, and one part spunk. With chutzpah, the wimpy coach becomes a fearless coach and a fearless coach will move mountains and reach the stars.

Don’t be a flabby coach or a 90-pound weakling coach, be a stud coach. Leadership coaches who master the three Cs, will be in high demand. So, let the wimpy kid have his diary, you start to use the three Cs to become the best damn leadership coach you can be. Coaching is no place for wimps!

Maximize Your Growth with a Coaching Mastermind

A coaching mastermind multiples the intelligence and insights of the members of the mastermind group. Napoleon Hill said that an additional mind, a group consciousness, is created which is greater than the sum of the individual minds. As a coach, you are well advised to form a mastermind group of coaches with likeminded values and goals.

Craft Your Mastermind Team Carefully

When forming a coaching mastermind group, it is critical that you select your members carefully. To propel you on your way to coaching excellence, demand the best of your coaching partners. And make sure that you share values, goals and work ethic. Notice that I did not say technical capability. This is because diversity on this level is one of the things that makes the mastermind group so valuable. Different perspectives and new insights are the benefit of the master mind. And if you have ever been part of a dynamic and successful mastermind, you know the exhilaration that comes from stacking one idea upon the next, similar to the exhilaration experiences at a poker table, when one bet feeds on another, round after round – but without the inevitable disappointment that occurs as the house of cards comes tumbling down.

Three Principles for Operating a Successful Mastermind Group

The benefit of the mastermind group is the generation of new and creative thoughts that come from the synergistic union of diverse minds with different techniques and experiences, but with a similar set of values and goals. Therefore, the mastermind must be allowed to think and synthesis new thoughts from the inputs of the individual members – patience is required. The drive of the individual minds must be tempered by an appreciation of the contribution of the most soft-spoken member – acceptance is required. And yet to achieve the best result, ideas must eventually be vetted against a standard of common values and ethics – judgment is required.

Getting the Most from Your Coaching Mastermind Group

Therefore, getting the most from your coaching mastermind group is not easy. Demand. Accept. Judge. Collect. Consolidate. Learn. Grow. It is as easy, or as difficult as 1-2-3-4-5-6. But believe me it is worth the effort, in the short term and in the long.

Five Traits Needed to be a Leadership Coach

Thinking of becoming a leadership coach? Just starting your coaching career? Or are you contemplating a decision to specialize at this point in your coaching career?

Being a leadership coach is an extremely rewarding career. Fame, fortune…! Well, perhaps not fame and fortune right away, but it’s a great way to earn a living. You help people discover how to use their own talents and personality traits to achieve career and life success. Their success means your success. A true win/win situation – w-hat could be better than that?

However, is leadership coaching the right choice for you? Do you have what it takes to be a successful coach?

5 Traits Needed to be a Leadership Coach

  • Passion for coaching
  • Persistence
  • Flexibility
  • Integrity
  • Trustworthiness

If you are currently in the coaching field, you already know you have the passion and love for helping people. If you are currently deciding whether or not coaching is right for you – ask yourself if you have the passion. A passion for coaching is very similar to a competitive nature. Just as a competitive person will out work, out think, and flat out try harder than their opponent, a person with a passion for coaching will do everything it takes to help clients achieve their goals or reach their dreams. Now, that’s leadership!

Persistence pays off in the coaching business. You need to be persistent to achieve anything of value in life, and you must be able to convey that sense of persistence to your clients. Lead by example; your persistence will show your clients the determination, dedication, and drive it takes to lead and succeed.

Doing the same things and expecting the same result is the definition of insanity. A leadership coach needs to be flexible when dealing with clients. Be open to suggestions, new ideas, experimental methods, and any scenarios that may benefit your clients. On first look, flexibility may seem contradictory to persistence, but it actually goes hand-in-hand with it. If you are persistent in achieving a goal, you will be flexible enough to try anything and everything.

Integrity is one of the most valued commodities in the coaching business. In an industry where sales is an integral part of the business, some coaches go too far when making claims. Hype does not mean help. Maintaining honesty and good character, even when promoting yourself, will provide value in the long run. Though it often seems like we live in a world where only hype and promotion count, integrity still matters.

In a recent interview, after becoming the winningest coach in Division I college basketball history, Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, was asked what he thought was the most important trait for a successful coach to possess. He answer was trustworthiness. Coaching young college basketball players at the highest level is very similar to coaching clients to succeed. As a leadership coach, taking the advice of the most successful college basketball coach in history would be a very wise move.

If you possess a passion for coaching, persistence, flexibility, integrity, and trustworthiness, it’s time to hang out your shingle and start your career as a leadership coach. With those five traits, your going to be very successful!

Questions To Ask Before Deciding On A Life Coach Training School.

If you only had five questions to ask when deciding on a life coach training school what would they be? Below you will find my top five questions and the reasons why.

People generally want to know what to expect before embarking on a new venture like enrolling in a life coach training school. It’s the fear of the unknown that frightens people. I assure you, most coaches won’t bite. It’s their job to bring out the best in you and provide you with a good experience. However, below I have provided you with a place to start, as I understand that it is not easy to find the life coach training school of your dreams.

Frequently Asked Questions About Life Coach Training Schools

  • What sort of curriculum does the school offer?

There are a number of different types of life coach training schools majoring on various methods of coaching. For example, there are life coaching training schools that major on wellness, business, Christian coaching, neurolinguistics, Law of Attraction, transformational, to name a few. Check out which type you are interested in.

  • Does the school have a business program included?

Unfortunately, one of the hardest things for coaches after securing their certificate is getting clients and growing their business. If you are not an already accomplished business person then you may not have a clue how to run a successful business no matter how excellent a coach you are. Be sure to ask if they have a business program and how extensive it is.

  • Is the school accredited?

If in the future you want your business to be accredited, or you want to join the International Coaching Federation (ICF) then it is important that you check to find out if your school is affiliated with the ICF and if they give credits toward full membership.

  • How much does it cost?

Not every life coaching training school is forth coming with this information. This may be your first question, as it was mine. I was on a limited budget and did not want to proceed with finding out further details about the course until I found out the cost. So ask. They will most likely try to sell you on a payment plan, but if it is out of your price range, don’t be intimidated.

Besides Asking Questions—Here Are Other Ways You Can Find Out Information

  • Read testimonies from former students and then see if you can find out if they have successful coaching businesses of their own.
  • Read reviews on the school or check out the coaching instructors websites to see what others have to say about the training.
  • When asking your questions, take notice as to how you are treated, as you can tell a lot about the school by how they field your questions.

There are some wonderful life coaching training schools available out there, but it does take a little effort to find the perfect one for you. Take your time, do your research and then invest in a program. It was one of the best investments of my life and I hope it will be for you too. Happy hunting.

Career Coach Academy—Surprising New Info Revealed

Before I get into the surprising new trend setting information I found out about Career Coach Academy, I wanted to be sure I understood exactly what a career coach is.

Definition of a Career Coach

I had a vague idea of what a career coach is, but wanted to make sure my assumptions were correct. So far in my research, I have concluded that a career, or job coach, is someone who specializes in helping people to figure out, find and achieve their desired career. I can imagine with today’s economy and so many people looking for jobs, not to mention all the people who are unhappy with their jobs and want a change, that career coaches are kept pretty busy.

Clients hiring a career coach would, in general, expect help with:

  • Finding a job (including all the trappings that goes along with it, such as where to look, resumes, interview etiquette, etcetera).
  • Getting clarity on what the real problems are in the client’s present job, determining if a change is really necessary, and if not, helping them come up with solutions to the core difficulties.
  • Making a career change to a more fulfilling job.

You will learn to do all of the above if you take a certificate course at Career Coach Academy.

However, if you are already a career coach running your own business or academy, read on to find out what more I discovered regarding Career Coach Academy.

So What’s The Surprise at Career Coach Academy?

The surprise, and what you should sit up and take notice of, is the niche courses that Career Coach Academy offers in social media.

Career Coach Academy offers three social media packages called:

  • Social Networking Career Strategist which focuses on the value of Facebook to find jobs.
  • Microblogging Career Strategist which focuses on teaching you about Twitter.
  • Online Professional Networking Strategist which focuses on the ins-and-outs of LinkedIn.

None of the social media courses at Career Coach Academy certify you as a career coach, however, they can be used as credits toward one of their certified courses.

As far as I can tell, this is the first career coaching academy or school that I’ve found who gives specialized niche training in social media and how to utilize it to generate revenue streams for career coaching businesses.

Staying Ahead In The Game

Social media is no longer an up and coming presence, not only in the career coaching industry, but in all our lives. It also baffles many people as how to use it. As a career coach leveraging the social media trend to your advantage seems like a very valuable tool.

Hope you took some great value out of this post today! I’d love to hear your feedback, so make sure you leave a comment with your thoughts or questions. And also, you can click on the Twitter button below to retweet this article…Thank you!

Relationship Coach Training: Males vs. Females

It’s males versus females in the relationship coach training class. Get a ring-side seat and enjoy all the thrills!

If your relationship coach training didn’t include a class on males versus females, you missed out on one key ingredient of your training. One ingredient you will need in your relationship mentoring business.

Relationship coach training should include:

  •  How to coach relationships – healthy relationships, conflict resolution, communication skills, and more.
  • Personal issues for coaches – boundaries, ethics, intuition, creativity, and more.
  • Methods and strategies to set up your business
  • Effective methods to market and promote your business.
  • MALES VERSUS FEMALES

Should Relationship Coach Training Should Teach More About Males vs. Females?

Though you may offer counseling of same-sex couples, the bulk of business for most coaches will be heterosexual couples. This means males versus females. Ok, before the politically correct pundits climb on my back, relationships aren’t really about males VERSUS females, but they are often about the differences between males and females. And sometimes those differences become antagonistic. To be an effective couples mentor, you must delve deeply into those differences.

Now, that I’ve dug myself a deep PC hole, I dig a little deeper and cover myself with dirt by offering some generalizations and stereotypical assumptions about the two genders.

Females are defined by a web of connections and are more relationship oriented. Males are defined by a hierarchy of connections and are more results oriented. Taking an example from sports, we can say that male athletes respond better to challenges made to their manliness and pleas to win the battle. Women athletes respond more positively to pleas that they carry their part of the load or that question their commitment to the team effort.

Yell at men to succeed and throw some guilt a woman’s way. Results for men, relationships for women. Of course, in your practice, you’re not yelling at anyone, but you should be using these generalizations as a basis of bringing couples closer together. Your relationship coaching training probably didn’t teach you about these stereotypes, did it? Too PC for that.

Another aspect of the male/female dichotomy is that females tend to internalize while men externalize things. However, women tend to talk about their problems while men ignore them. Basically this means that women ask for directions while men will drive in circles for hours before stopping to ask which way. But, the woman will talk about how she couldn’t find the location, while the man with keep his frustration bottled up inside.

One More Generalization about Men and Women

Men bond with each other through action while women bond with each other through interaction. As a coach, you need to create a bond with your clients; use this one generalization to create strong bonds with both the male and the female, but don’t let them know the basis of your training is stereotypes!

Have you learned those generalizations in your relationship coach training? If not, it’s time to learn them now and begin using them in your practice. Of course, you cannot bring up the fact that you are basing your strategy on generalizations when working with couples. But, you can formulate strategies and create role play scenarios that work with these general assumptions to help couples achieve happiness. Their happiness means your success!

Hope you took some great value out of this post today! I’d love to hear your feedback, so make sure you leave a comment with your thoughts or questions. And also, you can click on the Twitter button below to retweet this article… Thank you!

Leadership Coaching Services Meeting The Need

Recently I was wondering what the differences were between leadership coaching services and executive and corporate coaching services.

As far as I can tell they are very similar with only slight variations.

What Are The Differences?

Top notch leadership coaching services cater to individuals and team leaders. Corporate coaching services have the same target market, but specialize in the corporate world, and helping the company by helping the company’s leadership. Where as leadership coaching services has a much wider target market and often specializes in small businesses.

The word leadership is synonymous with the word management and executive, however, the executive coach has an even narrower target market majoring on executives only. Whereas leadership coaching services have a wider range of leadership as potential clients.

What Do Leadership Coaching Services Actually Provide?

Effective leadership is essential for today’s businesses to survive in the competitive marketplace. Leadership coaching services should be able to provide a wide range of services even over lapping some of the executive and corporate coaching services. Such as:

  • The ability to help clients to recognize behavioral and/or skill weaknesses, then hold them accountable to the required change, and at the same time provide the necessary support and guidance to achieve results.
  • Helping potential leaders to step up to the plate and deliver at their full potential. This is especially useful for the client who wants to increase their prospects for promotion.
  • Providing the support needed to a client to not second guess themselves when stepping out of their comfort zone. This could mean being prepared to help clients in any number of scenarios such as acquiring new responsibilities, working on potential high-risk projects, changing careers, etc.
  • If your leadership coaching services overlap into the corporate realm and you are hired by an organization then your services would include regular measurable reports to all parties involved. That would include the coach, the coached individual or team, the individual’s or team’s manager, and the client sponsor. The client sponsor is the person paying for the coaching which in this case would be the organization or company. This part of the job can be very tricky not to break client confidentiality and needs to be spelled out clearly from the beginning so that all parties concerned are clear on how that works.
  • Some clients will already excel in their leadership role and need help with balancing their work, family, and personal life. Leadership coaching services are also expected to help with that.

Trend Setting For Leadership Coaching Services

  • If you really want to expand your leadership coach service you could also consider providing coaching in a variety of different languages to meet the needs of your international client’s. Global expansion is already upon us.

My hat is off to all you leadership coaches. You have a lot on your plate. Keep up the good work pumping out those great leaders.

A Surprise Personal Coaching Training From My Mother-In-Law

Who loves to get personal coaching training from their mother-in-law? I admit I have a rare relationship with my mother-in-law. I don’t think of her as the stereotype, she is more like a hero. Today she got an award with a crowd of 500 people giving her a standing ovation for one of her lifetime achievements in contributing to the lives of others. It made me realize that many coaches would love to be in her shoes, and that she is highly qualified to provide personal coach training.

Personal Coaching Training For The Brave

If you think of the old adage, “Be”, “Do”, “Have” what do you imagine for yourself? Do you imagine standing up on a stage, receiving an award, giving an inspiring speech and then viewing a crowd of people giving you a standing ovation? Or do you think of the people whose lives you’ve touched.

If You Want To Have A Life Worth Remembering Invest In A Pair Of Overalls

I’m sure there are many people who would admire and even covet the accomplishments and awards my mom has received. Being that person is not what got her to where she is today. She worked hard and selflessly sacrificed her time and resources to make a difference for the lives of others. She didn’t just sit behind a desk and think of ideas, she was in the trenches. Yet every time she gets one of these awards she admits that it’s nice, but not as important to her as family.

The point of this personal coaching training is that aspiring for greatness alone is hollow. It’s about being the person who is committed enough to get the results. To really stand out and make a contribution. To create a vision that touches others in a way that inspires them to take action. When you live that type of life the reward is measured in your clients lives changed for the better, and any other recognition comes as an unexpected surprise.
