Getting the Most Out of Coaching Courses: What You Are You Missing From Free Coach Training

Coach training and coaching courses are not cheap even though there is a ton of information out there for free. So, why should you pay for coach training and enroll in coaching courses? Will it really pay off? Why do you need to pay for coaching? Why should you make sure you have your clients pay for their coaching?

Getting the Most Out of Coach Training: A Social Experiment

e

A couple of years ago a musician was playing his violin in a Washington DC Metro Station in the winter. People came and went. Only 6 stopped and listened for a few minutes before they walked away. Over two thousand people heard him play, but after 45 minutes the musician had collected about $30. When he finished playing there was no applause. No recognition.

The difference between this musician and other street musicians was that this was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest violinists in the world, playing one of the most difficult pieces ever written with a $3.5 million dollar instrument. Two days before this social experiment, Joshua had sold out at a theatre where the seats averaged $100. Are you doing the same with free coach training on the internet? Or are you using it to supplement what you learn in coaching courses?

How Does This Experiment Apply to Coaching Courses?

e

What does it have to do with your coaching practice? If something comes too easily do we really appreciate its value? Do we take the time to enjoy it and get the most out of the experience? Unfortunately we tend to take things for granted. And it happens in the context of perceived value of coach training and coaching courses.

I have been guilty of that as well. When I started learning to become a coach I bought a home study coach training book with a case of CDs. I did very little with it. Environment really does matter. Music played in a concert hall is going to sound better than music playing in a metro station. Being in the environment of coaching courses is going to allow for a better experience as well. There will be opportunities to transform knowledge into wisdom by putting the coach training information into practice.

The Key to Coach Training: Take the Time to Make the Most of Coaching Courses

e

What there really is to learn from this coach training is that if we don’t have time to stop and appreciate one of the best musicians in the world because our lives are so busy, will we really stop and take notice of other valuable things unless we are fully enrolled? If we didn’t purchase that theatre ticket, if we haven’t paid for coaching courses; will we really get the most out of our experiences?

How to be a Life Coach Who Can Gain Instant Credibility With Your Clients: What Most Coaching Courses Won’t Tell You

Do you want to know how to be a life coach who can gain instant credibility with your clients? Do you want to know how to be a life coach who has a clear picture of your client’s behaviors, motivators and personal skills…even before the first session? Do you want to be able to do this before you take half a dozen coaching courses?

The solution is using profiling and assessment coaching tools and skills. We offer certification and training for those who want to know how to be a life coach who has a deep understanding of these assessment tools. You can also use assessments if your quest is to learn how to be a life coach for people in sales, management, relationships, communication, and career planning. And there are some good coaching courses out there that will not only teach you the theory, but include practical experience in using the assessments during coaching sessions.

After your client takes a 10 minute computerized test, you will receive a detailed report on the results. Even without taking ancoaching courses, you will have some understanding about a person’s behavioral style and core beliefs.  Why?  Because even if you can’t read the graphical results of the assessment, there are many pages of text that you can read through to really learn how to add value to your coaching clients.  By the time you read through those results, you will know how to be a life coach who can communicate with and motivate your client most effectively.
One product, the DISC, measures 4 aspects of human behavior:

  • D is for “Dominance” and measures how people meet challenges or solve problems

  • I is for “Influence” and measures how people influence others to their point of view

  • S is for “Steadiness” and measures how people respond to the pace of their environment

  • C is for “Compliance” and measures how people respond to rules set by others.

Understanding which measures are dominant will give you information about a person’s strengths and weaknesses. Someone who measures extremely high for “Influence” will value other people so highly they may have difficulty saying “no” in order to manage their own priorities. Someone who scores very low on “Compliance” will most likely have trouble keeping their workspace organized or following the rules, but can be amazingly creative. Most of us are a combination of 2 of these measures.

Another product, the values assessment, makes it clear what motivates people to take action and why they behave the way they do. You can use this tool to understand how to be a life coach who knows how to motivate people to take specific action and how their values influence the choices they make. People tend to see the world through their values, and their behaviors are driven by finding fulfillment in the areas they feel are important to them.

  • Theoretical: A passion to discover, systematize and analyze; a search for knowledge. They will probably take any coaching courses they can find.

  • Utilitarian: A passion to gain return on investment of time, resources and money. They will only sign up for coaching courses that they are sure will make them money..

  • Aesthetic: A passion to add balance and harmony in one’s own life and environment.

  • Social: A passion to eliminate pain and suffering in the world and to assist others.

  • Individualistic: A passion to achieve position and to use that position to influence others.

  • Traditional: A passion to pursue the higher meaning in life through a defined system for living.

With access to these reports, you can get a clear picture of a person’s personality and values almost instantaneously. And when used properly, assessments can really help you become a more effective coach.

How to Become a Professional Life Coach: The Cold, Hard Truth Most Coaching Courses Won’t Tell You

Do you really want to know how to become a professional life coach? Do you want an honest answer that most coaching courses won’t tell you? Without hype or telling you what you want to hear?

If you just started and think that this is a great part time business where you can make lots of money, you need to know that in order to create something new it is going to take work. Work is one of those 4-letter words that’s not very politically correct. But if you really want to know how to become a professional life coach, the simple answer is that you must commit yourself to your own success and work hard. Thinking about having your own coaching business in any other way is like saying you want to loose weight and want to continue to think that food is just about pleasure rather than sustenance. Just look at our society, especially in the snack food department. All these chips and dips that we like to eat during a football game are not going to bring us closer to any health goals. The same for starting a coaching practice. THINKING about your success is much different than DOING what needs to be done.

How to become a professional life coach – step 1

Create your business. If you haven’t already done so, or if you are still looking for the “how to” in how to become a professional life coach, you need to get started in a coaching course. Part of the training should include an evaluation of your own strengths and weaknesses. Assessments such as the DISC and values assessments are great tools. You need to be able to understand yourself and how you react to the world, before you can hope to understand others and remain objective when exploring someone’s personal goals and challenges. Your coaching course should also include one-on-one-mentoring, actual experience coaching others with feedback, and specific information on how to start up and market your own coaching practice.

How to become a professional life coach – step 2

Repeat. Repeat the skills you began developing in step one. Prospecting, providing tremendous value during a single session, refining your coaching strategies, etc. You will need ongoing professional mentors.  You need to continue to take coaching courses during this time to stay on track. Starting you own business is much different that working for someone else, and as an entrepreneur you can’t afford to be comfortable.

How to become a professional life coach – step 3

Continue to refine your skills. This means ongoing coaching courses, continuing to take your own advice and receive professional coaching, and staying committed to your own success.

That is how to become a professional life coach. It is not very complicated, but in order to become successful you will need to do what 90% of people who take coaching courses won’t do. Are you in?
